Package: gdm3
Followup-For: Bug #801749
Dear Maintainer,
I have a similar problem: Starting Gnome was no problem, while every time I tried to use a "classical" window manager the login would not succeed, instead, the login screen would reappear. I solved the problem (somehow) by switching to lightdm, and explicitly using X (xserver-command = X)
Sincerely yours,
Moritz
