I've pushed the upstream patches to the packaging git repository, along
with a couple of other upstream fixes from the 3.22.x branch. I'm not
able to release this right now, but other GNOME team members are welcome
to do so.

I don't seem to get this myself - GNOME Terminal reliably keeps running
across long periods of the screen being locked. Do you have an unusual
input method configured, or anything else that would cause you to be
able to reproduce this crash when I can't? For now I've described it in
the changelog as "Wayland client crashes under unspecified circumstances".
