I believe this is a general problem with GTK+ which is fixed in GTK+ 3
(it seems by commit:dd7e8e9 in September 2012, although I may be wrong
here).  It is easily reproducible with gtk-demo from gtk2.0-examples;
apparently all GTK+ 2 applications suffer from it.

I doubt it will ever get fixed in GTK+ 2.
