Bug#897578: gnome-shell: In overview mode, rapid typing results in out-of-order characters in search box

Hello, I'm having this same issue since a couple of months. Like Rob, I'm
also using GNOME Shell 3.22.3

Some of my system description:
    OS: Debian GNU/Linux 9.8 (stretch)
    Architecture: amd64 (x86_64)
    Kernel: 4.9.0-8-amd64
