pangox-compat is the old Core X backend from Pango, which was split out
from pango1.0 in 2012. A few packages still depend on it. It has been
deprecated ever since it was split from Pango (probably earlier).

It is very much unmaintained upstream, and essentially unmaintained in
Debian too. Please don't use it.

The Debian GNOME team has not always been very good at announcing
deprecations, but better late than never... I'll open bugs blocking
this one for the packages that still use it. When there are none left,
pangox-compat can be removed.
