Thanks for the information. I'm wondering why this isn't documented
in the GNOME Terminal help.

I think that this should be part of the application configuration
(e.g. less), which could enable this feature at startup and disable
it before exiting. The user could also configure the shell prompt
(or similar) to disable it in case of SIGKILL (just like other
terminal modes that could be changed by various applications).
