This issue has been resolved for me in "testing".
This is how I resolved it without being able to start a gnome session:
1. Use GRUB to boot into recovery mode under advanced
2. Login to root when password is asked for
3. Run "ifup -all"
4. Run "dhclient"
5. Run "apt update"
6. Run "apt dist-upgrade"
7. Run "exit"
8. When you get to the login page, restart the computer because your
network might be a little wonky at this moment.
9. Continue using Debian testing
