   * What led up to the situation?

After not using it for some time, I fired up my testing VM ( in a Xen DomU )
and ran a dist-upgrade.  Since then ( last week ), I can't log into the gui
because it does not recognize any keyboard input.  libinput-debug from the
xen console recognizes the input, but not gdm3.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
