Bug#963779: nautilus: no image previews without libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin (should be an explicit Recommends:)

Package: nautilus
Version: 3.36.3-1
Severity: wishlist

I had a running Debian unstable system (amd64) with a fairly minimalist
non-GNOME OS installed. originally it had APT::Install-Recommends set
to 0, but as i wanted to move toward a more standard install, i set it
back to the default of APT::Install-Recommends 1.

After that, I decided to switch to GNOME, doing:

    apt install gnome

This installed all of gnome, including nautilus, with the appropriate
Recommends.

But while nautilus showed me previews of local .odp files, it wasn't
showing me previews of .png or .jpg files.

on IRC, azeem helped me find that libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin was missing.
Installing that package made previews work again.

<azeem> it seems nautilus recommends librsvg2-common, which depends on
        libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0, which recommends libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin

However, the machine i was on had already had libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0
installed (without libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin) and as a result, the expected
default behavior didn't work.

I think if nautilus had an explicit Recommends: libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin,
that would have caught the issue.

Thanks for your work maintaining GNOME in debian!

Regards,
