The gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons package isn't adapted to GNOME 
40 and will probably be removed from the archive.

Hopefully gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng will soon be available 
instead, see <https://bugs.debian.org/987291>. It's waiting in the NEW 
queue. Ubuntu ships it by default as from 21.04, and yes, it seems to 
work well.
