Bug#1009816: gnome-software: No GUI on NVIDIA proprietary drivers and Wayland

Running on Gnome with Wayland and NVIDIA proprietary drivers (nvidia-driver version 470.103.01-3) -
and launching Gnome Software leaves its process running in the background, without any GUI windows.

The only hint at an error is the following warning from gnome-shell:
`meta_window_set_stack_position_no_sync: assertion 'window->stack_position >= 0' failed`.

This issue renders gnome-software unusable, however switching to X11 or Nouveau drivers
allows the bug to be circumvented.
