Please check whether this problem is reproducible with *all* extensions
disabled. If it is, please check the systemd journal for error messages.

Every GNOME Shell upgrade is expected to break extensions. The price we pay
for extensions being so powerful is that there is no stable extension API.
By default, GNOME Shell will not load extensions that have not
specifically been marked as compatible with the upgraded version. If
you have changed this setting in the past, please reset it with:
gsettings reset org.gnome.shell disable-extension-version-validation
or by using the GUI (gnome-extensions-app).
The Freon and Vertical Workspaces extensions are known to need updating
for GNOME 42 (#1008547, #1008560). We cannot wait for all extensions to be
updated before upgrading gnome-shell: if we did that, then in practice we
would never be able to upgrade gnome-shell at all.
