Interestingly, while it did happen with both installed extensions disabled,
using the disable switch at the top of the new Extensions dialog did make
overview work correctly again.

Journal does show a fair explosion of messages when starting with extensions on:

These sets at least seem to repeat a lot. It's hard for me to say if
there's anything useful in there.

Interestingly my bookworm laptop hasn't had any odd behaviour.
