Package: meld
Version: 3.22.0-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I was using meld and wanted to modify long lines via
meld's search-and-replace to be able to diff them
        visually.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
I entered the following line: xaxaxa
Then hit CTRL+H, entering a in the search field and \n
in the replace field. I checked the Regular expression
flag. Then I hit replace once and replace-all once.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
The text transformed in the following way:
        x
        x\nx\n

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
        I expected the following:
        x
        x
        x
