Bug#1089850: RM: gimp [s390x] -- ROM; NBS

Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: gimp at packages.debian.org
User: ftp.debian.org at packages.debian.org
Usertags: remove
Control: affects -1 src:gimp

Please remove gimp on s390x.

It fails to build there because of a complex build error, but gimp is
a desktop app that is not expected to be used on s390x. This issue
needs to be resolved, either by removing gimp on s390x or isolating
the build error and fixing or working around it in order for gimp 3 to
reach Testing. https://bugs.debian.org/1088168

Reverse dependencies
=================
Checking reverse dependencies...
# Broken Depends:
debian-design: design-desktop-graphics
gimp-plugin-registry: gimp-plugin-registry
gimp-texturize: gimp-texturize
open-font-design-toolkit: open-font-design-toolkit
sane-frontends: sane
xsane: xsane

# Broken Build-Depends:
gfpoken: gimp
gimp-plugin-registry: libgimp2.0-dev
gimp-texturize: libgimp2.0-dev
openttd-opengfx: gimp
sane-frontends: libgimp2.0-dev
xsane: libgimp2.0-dev

Dependency analysis
================
Arch-all packages can be ignored
----------
debian-design: design-desktop-graphics
open-font-design-toolkit: open-font-design-toolkit
openttd-opengfx: gimp

Expected to drop gimp from Depends and Build-Depends soon
--------------
sane-frontends: libgimp2.0-dev
xsane: libgimp2.0-dev

If this isn't resolved in time, xsane has no reverse depends while
sane-frontends has one reverse-depends (pct-scanner-scripts) but it is
arch: all. Therefore, I believe it is also acceptable to remove
sane-frontends and xsane on s390x.

Please proceed with removing these packages on s390x from Unstable
---------
gfpoken: gimp
gimp-plugin-registry: libgimp2.0-dev
gimp-texturize: libgimp2.0-dev

The 2 gimp plugin packages are not being completely removed from
Debian at this time because there is a decent chance that there could
be a gimp 3 version of them in 2025. gfpoken is a low popcon game and
it's acceptable for it to be unavailable on s390x and I don't want to
try to refactor its build system to only use gimp on Arch: all.

Thank you,
Jeremy Bícha
