gitg keeps spitting the following message to the terminal:

Failed to lookup reference (refs/heads/main): reference 'refs/heads/main' not found

gitg should not be assuming a refs/heads/main, if that's what's going
on.  certaintly nothing worth spamming the terminal repeatedly about.
