I received a reply to this by private email confirming use of a theme 
that is based on gtk2-engines-murrine, but please reply to the bug 
address so that information is available to any developer who 
investigates the bug.

This and the assertion message probably indicate that this is a bug in 
gtk2-engines-murrine, so I'm reassigning it. (gtk2-engines-murrine 
developers: please see the original bug report against gimp for the 
backtrace.)

Please try this, or some other theme that is based on the 
gtk2-engines-pixbuf theme engine.
