   * What led up to the situation?
Update through nala (apt) yesterday (2025-02-17) under Debian testing

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?
I updated my OS, which brought the package libgtk-4-1 version 4.17.4+ds-4 (from
libgtk-4-1 4.16.12+ds-3)

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Nautilus very slow to open (more than a minute). Files portal impossible to
open from apps (Thunderbird, Zotero) and freezing those apps. GNOME Terminal
very slow to open. No issue with Xfce apps.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
No issue.

Problem solved by downgrading to libgtk-4-1 4.16.12+ds-3 :
