Hello now I understand what is happening. Nautilus reads preferences in 'org.gtk.settings.file-chooser.preferences.show-hidden' but never writes back to this entry when the value is changed.<BR>
<BR>
If one had once used a file chooser and set he hidden visibility to true then it can not be changed back through nautilus.<BR>
