The BTS stores the fixed version. It then determines whether this is "another 
branch", which in fact for stable it is. So yes, that just works. You can 
close a bug in a number of different uploads to diffent suites and the BTS 
should know what's going on. Advantage is that users looking up that specific 
bug can view for which versions it was fixed in which distribution.
