i agree, and i don't think i would have even filed a bug about it :)

But the debian bug exists, and it seemed easier to me to just patch it
and mark it as pending so that it's resolved in the next debian package
whether there's an upstream release or not -- and not have to wade
through the open bugs to find this one to close it when there *is* a new
upstream release.

i certainly wouldn't roll a new release for this bug on its own, of course.

yep, i'd much rather pull patches directly from upstream's git tree when
possible (as i've done for #760392).

Do other folks have a preference about how to do this as a team?
