Yes that was indeed the issue, pinentry-gtk2 was not installed. I also
had to install scdaemon in order to allow gnupg2 to connect to the
smartcard.
The fact that the pinenty is not installed(gtk2|qt) might be an issue
for the application using libgpgme11 maybe? sylpheed/claws should maybe
recommends/depends on it explicitly?
