Hey Debian OpenPGP folks--
I'm currently at the IETF, where we're due to have an informal
discussion tomorrow about re-opening the OpenPGP working group.
I'll also be attending the OpenPGP summit next month to talk to various
OpenPGP e-mail implementers about plans and collaboration and
organization between the different groups.
In both contexts, i hope to help represent GnuPG's status in Debian, and
try to encourage communication between other OpenPGP tools and systems
integrators like debian and our derivatives.
Among the things i'd like to discuss are:
* reducing the number of versions we try to support simultaneously so
we can focus on modern, cryptographically-sound systems as much as
possible.
* for e-mail in particular, coming to consensus on how we can best
protect metadata while keeping things simple for users and as
compatible as possible with existing e-mail infrastructure.
* settling on common terminology for keys, uids, validity, ownertrust,
keyrings, expiration, etc, ideally in multiple languages
* creating a modern profile of OpenPGP that we can try to move toward,
with an eye toward compatibility as well.
If there are specific things that you want me to bring up to the people
in either community, please drop me a note (either on-list or off-list)
and i'll do my best to make sure your thoughts are represented.
Regards,
--dkg
