With each new key the web of trust needs to be recomputed and in this
process signatures of all keys are usually checked.  A few keys with
insane long key lengths signing many of your keys might be the reason 
for the delays.

I would really suggest that along with a crontab entry like:

30   1 * * *   /usr/local/bin/gpg --batch --check-trustdb 2>/dev/null
