It works for more than a decade for me. I just walked to my laptop and
tried gpg from that laptop console: The pinentry works as expected. Now
back to my X server, from where I access my laptop via ssh -X, gpg works
also with the pinentry showing up here.

Well, I am using pinentry-gtk and I am not using systemd. But the
latter should be unrelated.
