I take it back.  With pinentry-gnome3 1.0.0-1, i can replicate the
misbehavior.

It looks like there's a patch in pinentry upstream
b0e0bdeac5d40ca645afc9017778b39a26303523 which resolves this problem.

This should get fixed shortly.

If you were seing this with a different pinentry besides
pinentry-gnome3, please either open a new issue here in the BTS, or
clone this one and explain what the details are.
