Yup, but i'm also struggling with the impression that upstream had more
information than we did, but deliberately withheld it to encourage the
switch to 2.4 anyway.  It's rather disappointing.

thanks for your patches on the debian/13-trixie branch!  that looks
reasonable to me.

I'll take a stab at proposing patches on debian/12-bookworm later today
