A new GNUstep port got integrated upstream (not yet released), so I am currently fighting with it (the changes compared to 1.2 are immense). However, it still uses the `img_convert' function. If I am not able to fix the current package in time for the upcoming ffmpeg transition, please remove it from testing. It seems that it never gets called anyway; converting a series of images to a movie never worked for me. I anticipate that the ffmpeg part of the GNUstep port is not entirely complete. I'm still trying to get Lynkeos trunk to build and run on GNUstep -- I'll forward all fixes upstream and hopefully they'll get in the 2.6 release. However, this is likely to take some time, so I intend to proceed as above for the ffmpeg transition in Debian. Message-ID: <7CEA969A-A67B-4C69-A446-537BCD69B166@mac.com> Hello, It seems from looking at the changelog that the GNUstep packages have not been updated for a number of months, is this true? I am trying to port some applications and I require more recent changes that are in the GNUstep repository. I am very familiar with compiling GNUstep and its many dependencies; I am mildly familiar with building Debian packages. Can I help in any way? Specifically I would like to be able to build Debian packages from the most recent GNUstep source, is there a way for me to access the debian packaging files so I can do this myself? Of course I can compile GNUstep from source outside of the Debian packaging system, but the applications I'm porting, I'm also creating Debian packages for them, so I want to get the dependencies right. thanks Scott From uhoreg at debian.org Wed Feb 25 04:42:46 2009 From: uhoreg at debian.org (Hubert Chathi) Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2009 23:42:46 -0500 Subject: [Debian GNUstep maintainers] recent version? Yes, the GNUstep packages haven't been updated for a while. Partly because Lenny was frozen for a long time, and partly because I haven't had time to work on them. G?rkan has produced some packages, available at , based on the latest upstream releases. There are a few changes that I need to make before uploading them, but the final packages will likely be fairly similar. As far as helping with GNUstep, yes, we can always use more help. Check out the bugs that have been filed against the GNUstep packages and see if you can help fix them. I will try to dig up some more information in the next couple of days on how to help. -- Hubert Chathi -- Jabber: hubert at uhoreg.ca PGP/GnuPG key: 1024D/124B61FA http://www.uhoreg.ca/ Fingerprint: 96C5 012F 5F74 A5F7 1FF7 5291 AF29 C719 124B 61FA From uhoreg at debian.org Fri Feb 27 04:13:33 2009 From: uhoreg at debian.org (Hubert Chathi) Date: Thu, 26 Feb 2009 23:13:33 -0500 Subject: [Debian GNUstep maintainers] recent version? Currently, I am a bottleneck, because I am the only Debian developer on the GNUstep team, and I unfortunately don't have much time. New GNUstep packages are in the process of being built right now, so there isn't much help that we need immediately. However, if you want to help long-term, here is how to get started: - subscribe to this mailing list, if you are not subscribed already - look at the bug reports filed against the GNUstep packages in Debian - check out the sources from our arch repository. See http://wiki.debian.org/DebianGNUstep/Arch for more information on our arch repository. (note that the arch repository only has the sources from the last release, and not the one that G?rkan worked on) - familiarize yourself with the packaging. The debian/rules file for the core GNUstep packages are a tad more complicated than the average Debian package. We also insert a bit of extra packaging infrastructure to help with other packages, most of which is poorly documented (read: "not at all documented"). If you have any questions, ask. - look at http://wiki.debian.org/DebianGNUstep/TODO - see if you want to help/adopt other GNUstep-related packages in Debian I'm probably forgetting something, but this should do for now... -- Hubert Chathi -- Jabber: hubert at uhoreg.ca PGP/GnuPG key: 1024D/124B61FA http://www.uhoreg.ca/ Fingerprint: 96C5 012F 5F74 A5F7 1FF7 5291 AF29 C719 124B 61FA
