I forgot to finish here.  I should have told you not to perform this
test with GNUMail, as it doesn't use NSDistributedNotificationCenter.
Please use Preview or Cynthiune for reliable results -- they have .gorm
files and loading them will implicitly attempt to start gdnc if
connection cannot be established.
