What's your architecture and window manager?  And GNUstep core
packages' versions?

This kind of error smells like a known issue with wmaker, when certain
apps cannot display the icon (I can't dig the URL for the upstream bug
right now, sorry).  The symptoms are the same.

Without providing more information, it is impossible to tell, but it's
very likely that this is the well known bug (still unfixed upstream,
TTBOMK).
