thanks for responding!
have tried it again, just by typing the password blindly, it does work now! I am a newbee on working with Debian as an OS, I do have the book " debian 9" by Koen Wybo in order to learn as much as I can, but missed the, indeed, obvious! really did not have a clue!!! Thanks again!!
