I'm afraid I cannot reproduce.  Startup is a bit slowish for such an
app because all images for the cuckoo animation are loaded.  On my
slower machines there is indeed intensive CPU usage but that's only
until the app starts and the clock appears (it takes several seconds
even on an old i386 machine).

Could you be more specific -- for how long does it happen, etc.  Also
would appreciate if you run it again on a sid/trixie/bookworm machine.
