I'm seeing the same at e.g.
https://files.scene.org/get/mags/software_chronicles_digest/scd-6.zip
Like you, I find that it starts working if I disable
CSInputBuffer-bit-string-reading.patch.
The patch is seemingly a .rar crash fix that entered Debian in 2017 and was
never sent upstream; perhaps it's fixed by now somehow? (I sandbox unar,
so I'm not that worried about security issues...)
