Hi Josh,
I have updated the pikopixel.app package; it should migrate to testing
in 4 days. There were some problems though; see comments below.

This works very well.

I removed both patches. openapp is redundant in Debian because we use
the debian-multiarch layout (modification of the debian layout which
itself is a modified fhs layout). It does no harm, though, except a
lintian warning "desktop-command-not-in-package". I have overridden
the warning since openapp is in gnustep-common which is always
guaranteed to be installed.

There's still an AppStream warning "metainfo-filename-cid-mismatch" --
this is because the metainfo file must match the ID: it has to be
named com.twilightedge.pikopixel.appdata.xml. I also CamelCase'd
PikoPixel as this looks more natural (and I see that's always the case
for various GNOME programs).
So you might want to rename that file in the next release and also
s/pikopixel/PikoPixel/ at line 4. I also noticed that all packages
that ship an AppStream metainfo file have exactly identical .desktop
file (that is, com.twilightedge.PikoPixel.desktop instead of
PikoPixel.desktop). I'm not sure how important this is but everything
works as it is for the AppStream clients I tested:
1. PikoPixel appears in gnome-software.
2. PikoPixel appears in gnome-packagekit (/usr/bin/gpk-application).
3. It can also be searched via packagekit itself:
$ pkgcli search pixel-art
