Hello,

Well, 7.2 is the latest release and
https://www.gnu.org/software/texinfo/ explicitly suggest: "texinfo.tex
is updated much more frequently than full Texinfo releases are made;
please use the latest version."

The breakage occured at
798ff967bbf66d94089569f9509c9dc12730462d
    @*heading for "@xrefautomaticsectiontitle on"

    * doc/texinfo.tex (\setref, \donoderef): take an extra argument
    instead of referring to \currentsection.
    (\currentsection): remove use throughout.

    No functional changes intended.

I have sent a report to bug-texinfo ML, it seems to be stuck in the
moderation queue right now, though.

BTW Thanks for finding that this depends on the version of texinfo.tex.
- I am sure this would have taken me a long time to find wy my minimal
example suddenly stopped failing

cu Andreas
