Then perhaps you should learn about `origtargz` utility from devscripts.
Also you can use
apt(-get) source {packagename}
to fetch uploaded package with tarball.

I found it disturbing and depressing to read proposals to enforce pristine-
tar workflow here and there...
IMHO pristine-tar is counter productive and maintaining it requires extra
effort. It should not be made mandatory just like GBP should not be required
to maintain Debian packages.
