You are right, it is not as clearly specified as I thought, and it
probably should be. On the other side please note that when following
gbp's documentation:
/usr/share/doc/git-buildpackage/manual-html/gbp.import.upstream-git.html
one ends with a layout where the local master branch tracks upstream/master.
