Package: podman
Version: 5.8.3+ds1-1
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
Podman 6.0.1 was released on July 8, 2026, and 6.0.0 on June 24, 2026.
The current version in unstable is 5.8.3+ds1-1.
Podman 6.0 is a major release with significant changes including:
- CNI networking removed; Netavark is now the sole network backend
- New nftables-based firewall rules (iptables no longer supported)
- Configuration file handling rewritten (config files moved to /usr/share/containers)
- Podman machine improvements and rootless port forwarding fixes
The upstream release requires coordinated updates with these packages:
netavark: 1.17.2 -> 2.0.0
aardvark-dns: 1.17.1 -> 2.0.0
buildah: 1.43.2 -> 1.44.0
skopeo: 1.22.0 -> 1.23
golang-github-containers-common: 0.67.1 -> 0.68.0
All of these must be updated together with podman to ensure compatibility.
