Hi!
Gdal 1.3.0 is available for tests :D

You can download it from
http://www.knio.it/debian/

Note: it is compiled for etch, cause of a dependencies problem with 
unixodbc-dev...

Lintian noticed only that:

It is in the TODO list, but, imho, this is a secondary things... the primary 
target is a well done gdal package ;-)
