Below is a debdiff patch that fixes the problem. It essentially changes the
way of setting OCT_INSTALL_DIR in configure.ac. This is done in a much
simpler way using octave-config, BTW. Note that this implies running
autoconf. The patch below contains the necessary changes to configure. This
is ugly, I know, but works.
Also, the build-dependency is changed to octave3.0-headers.
The package builds fine and the function seems to work. However, I could
not test it because I do not not have a HDF5 file with the appropriate
slices.
