I wouldn't bother with thuban, it's not actively developed anymore.

It's a simple WMS viewer, no match for QGIS, but still has some active
users:

Because of the dead upstream I suggested to drop thuban from OSGeo-Live
at the time of the wxwidgets3.0 issues, but Angeloz preferred to keep it
because it was not obsolete yet. "Old, not obsolete" to quote the recent
Terminator ;-)

I'm still busy with the gdal transition, but feel free to highlight me
