The segmentation fault is caused by the deprecated spatialite_init()
method, this is fixed in QGIS 2.8.3. See:

As noted in the second bug, we now have spatialite 4.3.0 in unstable. It
should migrate to testing in 5 days if no RC bug or uncoordinated
transition blocks it.

And as noted in the first bug, QGIS 2.8.3 contains the changes to use
the thread-safe spatialite_init_ex() method, but it hasn't been released
yet.

If getting the QGIS 2.8.3 release out takes too long, I'll include the
spatialite changes as a patch in the qgis 2.8.2 package.
