The segfaults related to the deprecated spatilite_init() method is known
issue, see my post about SpatiaLite 4.2.1 and the links contained therein:

I've currently updating the spatialite related package for the upcoming
SpatiaLite 4.3.0 release. I'll request the spatialite transition from
the Release Team soon after the final release.
