Adding an MPI variant of NetCDF is not going to happen any time soon. It
requires extensive patching of both the Autotools & CMake buildsystems
to be acceptable for inclusion upstream.

As the only active maintainer of the netcdf packages in Debian, I'm
tempted to close this issue as wontfix because I'm won't be adding
support for the MPI variant in the foreseeable future.

I'm leaving this issue open for now, because I know some others did have
work in progress. But I will close it if there is no progress a year
from now.
