While somewhat admirable that you go through the upstream commits for
copyright claims, that is not needed.

You only need to collect the copyright claims from the source.

If authors didn't bother to claim copyright in the files in question, it
doesn't need to be recorded in d/copyright. They may have chosen to
disclaim their copyright, or the changes were trivial and not eligible
for copyright.
