This is caused by spatialite exposing the following via pkgconfig:

 Libs: -L${libdir} -lspatialite -lminizip -lrttopo -lfreexl -lproj \
                   -lsqlite3 -lz -lsqlite3 \
                   -L/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -lgeos_c -lxml2 -lm

Not all of these libraries were pulled in via the libspatialite-dev
dependencies. This has been fixed in git.
