That's where you should looks for the problem.

Chances are good Java apps only work correctly in common DEs like Gnome 
and KDE.

It might also be that GLX is not working correctly for your GPU, e.g. 
using nouveau instead of the nvidia-driver-dkms for Nvidia GPUs.
