Bug#270073: grub-splashimages: breaks on systems where /boot is a separate partition

Sure although I don't think the reason above was good enough -- why not
just mount boot on /boot/. Anyway one good reason to move them out of
/boot/grub/splashimages is that the package may be too big for many
people's /boot/ parition size.

I shall move them in my next upload.
