This is not a bug but a feature. The same holds true for md5sums (and
even crypt) hashes in /etc/shadow. The sense behind that is that the
admin should not be able to check that two users have the same
passwords.

This is not a very detailed description. If you want further help send
your non-working menu.lst and the password that you used to generate the
md5sum.
If your problem is solved in the meantime, please close the bug.
