grub menu highlighting seems to be broken when I have a splashimage (from the grub splash deb package) in Testing

have set foreground and background to ffffff and 000000 respectively but I
still can't tell which kernel I'm booting when using a splashimage. The
highlighting just doesn't seem to work.

Is it a bug or am I just being _really_ dopey?
